What the research shows about storytelling & reminiscence

Storytelling and reminiscence therapy ranks #1 for cognitive function among all non-drug therapies for older adults

26 Studies

over 2,000 older adults — reminiscence therapy shows measurable improvements in memory, mood, and well-being

How it works

Simpler than you think.

1

Truman calls you

Pick a time that works. Truman calls your phone. No apps to download, no passwords to remember.

2

You share a story

A friendly conversation about your life — your childhood, your career, the lessons you learned. You talk naturally.

3

Your mind benefits

Recalling and narrating memories exercises your brain in ways research has consistently shown to improve memory, mood, and well-being.

What a call sounds like

A real question from a real call.

“Close your eyes and picture the kitchen you grew up in. Not your kitchen now — the one from when you were young. What was on the counter? What did it smell like when something was cooking? Who was usually in there with you?”

That’s how every call starts — one thoughtful question. You take it wherever you want.

Vintage photographs in a weathered wooden box

“At first I thought, what’s the point of talking about the past? But after a couple weeks I noticed I was sharper in my regular conversations. I was remembering names better. And honestly, I just started my mornings in a better mood.”

It’s a conversation.

Common questions

Everything you’d want to know.

Is Truman a real person or a computer?

Truman is an AI-powered conversational guide — but it doesn’t feel like talking to a computer. The conversation is warm, natural, and adapts to you. Many people say it feels like catching up with an old friend.

How much does it cost?

Completely free — no credit card needed, no strings attached.

Do I need a smartphone or the internet?

No. Truman calls your phone — landline or cell. There’s no app to download, no website to log into, no device to set up. If you can answer a phone call, you can use Truman.

What kind of questions does Truman ask?

Things like “What was your very first job?” or “Tell me about the best trip you ever took.” They’re designed to spark vivid memories — the kind of recall that exercises your brain. You can take the conversation wherever you want.

How long is each call?

About 10 minutes, but there’s no timer. If you want to talk for 5 minutes, that’s fine. If a story takes 15, that’s fine too.

Can my daughter or son set this up for me?

Absolutely. Many people hear about Truman from their kids. If someone in your family wants to set it up for you, they can schedule your free call and we’ll take it from there.

Is my information private?

Yes. Your stories belong to you. We never sell your data, share your recordings, or use your conversations for advertising. Period.

Can I change my call time or skip a day?

Yes — just reply to any text from Truman or call our support line at (970) 239-7443. We’re real people and happy to help.

Why we built this

Built by Dr. Huggins and Dr. Dawood. The research on reminiscence and storytelling is clear — it’s one of the most effective things an older adult can do for their mind and mood. But meaningful, guided reminiscence has always been expensive and hard to access, available mostly in clinical settings. We wanted to change that. Truman exists to bring it to as many people as possible, simply and affordably, through the device everyone already has: their phone.

For family

The most meaningful gift
doesn’t come in a box.

Many people hear about Truman from their adult children. If you’d like to give your parent or grandparent a daily conversation that keeps them sharp, connected, and enjoying their mornings — you can set it up for them in about 60 seconds.
